Who We Are

We’re a youth-led organization that believes real change starts in the communities we work with, with the people, their stories, and our collective dreams for sustainable communities. We understand that issues like early marriage, education inequality, lack of clean water, or limited income opportunities are not just problems; they’re part of a bigger system that needs shifting. Our work is focused on rural, marginalized, and indigenous communities in Kenya, particularly the Maasai and Maa-speaking communities, as well as other pastoralist groups.

Our Why

We understand that issues like early marriage, educational inequality, a lack of access to clean water, or limited income opportunities are not just problems; they’re part of a larger system that needs to be transformed. That’s why we don’t come in with quick fixes. Instead, we spend time with the people, ask questions, listen, and co-create solutions that actually work for them. Our team collaborates closely with local groups to address education gaps, enhance access to safe water and sanitation, foster economic growth, and improve climate resilience.

At The Soina Foundation, we put communities, especially those most affected, at the center of climate action. We focus on solutions that protect both people and the natural environment. We are a large group of people who powered the movement fighting for a green and peaceful future for your land, forests, oceans, food, climate, and to pass the green earth to our children. Each one of us can make small changes in our lives, but together we can change the world. We also focus a lot on building skills and confidence, because we believe communities already have what it takes; they need a bit of support to unlock it.

Our Core Areas of Focus:

Quality Education

Quality Education

We work with communities to keep children, and in some cases focus on girls, by addressing the real barriers: poverty & Hunger, harmful cultural practices, and lack of proper school infrastructure. From scholarships to school feeding and infrastructure to make education possible where it’s needed most. While education is seen as a basic right elsewhere,...

Access to Clean & Safe Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Services

We partner with communities to bring water closer to homes, schools, etc, through boreholes, rainwater harvesting, hygiene education, and dignity kits so that access to WASH services becomes a right and not a burden. One in ten people around the world still lack access to clean and safe water. But in many rural areas like...

Building Climate Resilience

We work with local communities to build knowledge and tools for adapting to climate change using storytelling, nature-based solutions, and youth-led restoration to protect people, culture, and the planet. And yet, most people lack access to information, tools, or resources to adapt. At The Soina Foundation, we put communities, especially those most affected, at the...

Building Economic Power

Building Economic Power

We support women and youth through beadwork, small-scale farming, and business training so they can turn their skills into income, take control of their futures, and strengthen their families and communities. At The Soina Foundation, we create spaces where women and young people can build their own economic power and rewrite that narrative. In my...

Our Projects

SDG 4

School’s Feeding Program – Kitchen Gardens & farms

We work with schools to grow vegetables and other foods that support feeding programs, boost nutrition, and create learning opportunities in farming and sustainability. Surplus is sold to nearby communities, and the income helps buy cereals or cover school needs.

SDG 3

Intergenerational Dialogue for Community Development

We bring together elders, youth, and children to exchange knowledge, values, and experiences that inspire community-led solutions. These spaces help bridge the gap between generations, preserve culture, and spark collective progress.

Community Libraries - Community Hubs

We are on a mission to build safe, solar-powered libraries in rural areas, so that every child can access books, digital learning resources, and a space to study. Our libraries are community hubs where dreams grow one page at a time, ensuring that learning takes place in supportive environments.
