Project Info
Project Description
We work with local communities to build knowledge and tools for adapting to climate change using storytelling, nature-based solutions, and youth-led restoration to protect people, culture, and the planet. And yet, most people lack access to information, tools, or resources to adapt. At The Soina Foundation, we put communities, especially those most affected, at the center of climate action. Climate change is not just an environmental issue for us; it’s a daily reality. In Indigenous and rural communities like ours and even other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, we’re already seeing dried rivers, lost harvests, and rising vulnerability. And yet, most people lack access to information, tools, or resources to adapt. At our foundation we put communities, especially those most affected, at the center of climate action. We focus on solutions that protect both people and nature.
Our Approach
Climate Education for Local Action
We simplify climate knowledge and tailor it to our context—teaching communities about real, practical solutions like Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), tree growing, and land care through schools and storytelling.
Capacity Building for Adaptation
We support our pastoralist communities to explore alternative, climate-smart livelihoods like small-scale crop farming to boost food security and reduce overdependence on livestock.
Youth-Led Restoration Activities
We empower young people and school-based clubs to lead restoration activities that heal degraded lands, protect biodiversity, and build climate resilience from the ground up.
Supporting Vulnerable Communities
We work closely with families affected by climate-induced challenges like drought, floods, and displacement—connecting them to relief, long-term support, and recovery pathways.
Reviving Traditional Knowledge
We value Indigenous environmental knowledge and incorporate it into modern solutions, making climate action more relatable and respectful to our people’s way of life.
